The Snack Society CookbookThe Snack Society
If there is one thing we really love at MWC, it would have to be food (who doesn’t!) So we didn’t have to be asked twice to help create a brand new cookbook! Pioneering culinary visionary Kamilla from The Snack Society needed a creative design agency to work on bringing to life her ‘free-from’ recipes into a professional cookbook for the discerning, allergy-conscious consumer market. Her passion for nutritious health that didn’t compromise on taste or flavour was evident from our first meeting and it was vital that we brought that into the every aspect of the project.
The original material consisted of Kamilla’s manuscript of delicious recipes for raw and baked treats – without gluten, dairy, refined sugar and eggs, and our first role was to conceptualise a fitting design style that would reflect her brand ethos and make the recipes pop on the page. Our client brief from Kamilla requested a focus on a ‘homespun’ look and feel with a muted pastel palette. Our idea was to incorporate various textures found in the kitchen, from fabrics and papers to wooden table tops and stone surfaces. That way the readers would immediately be drawn into the narrative and get a sense of the authentic heritage behind the recipes. Each of the textures was tinted in different colours so we could define each section for easy reader reference. By adding ripped edges to some of the images and recipes, we could add a scrapbook vibe to the book that would further enhance its homely feel and welcoming tone.
With our engaged design and ultra-moreish layout we were able to showcase Kamilla’s recipes’ in a way that enhanced her brand perception and incorporated her vision and messaging strategies. All the photography was executed in-house at MWC and expertly styled by Alicia Stanley-Bell. It is also possible that we ate a lot of the left-over food…
